Obituary of Kenneth "Kenny" D. Stumpf Sr.
Kenneth, “Kenny”, Stumpf passed away peacefully Monday, August 23, 2021 at the age of 80 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, surrounded by family. He was originally from New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated from the University of New Orleans in 1962 with a degree in Physics. He married his loving wife, Carrol Richard Stumpf, on December 22, 1961. Kenny spent the beginning of his career working on the Apollo Program for Boeing, designing optical lenses and monitors for the S-1C booster, the first stage of the Saturn V rocket. He continued his career in optical design working for ITEK in Lexington, Massachusetts where he designed cameras for the U2 and Blackbird aircrafts. He was a resident of Chelmsford, Massachusetts during this time, where he and Carrol raised their three children, Ken, Mark, and Kristen. Kenny and Carrol moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana for a short period of his career, and retired there shortly after. Known for his quick wit, deep laugh, and sharp sense of humor, Kenny was a beloved son, brother, uncle, father and friend to those who knew him. He will be missed dearly by the family and friends he leaves behind. Kenny is preceded in death by father, Henry Stumpf Jr. and mother, Margaret Negrotto Stumpf, sister Sally Stumpf, and brothers Henry Stumpf III and Steven Stumpf. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carrol Richard Stumpf, children, Kenneth Stumpf Jr., Mark Stumpf, and Kristen Stumpf, brother Quentin Stumpf and sister Cynthia Atwell. He also leaves behind three grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, and Jonathan who loved their Papa dearly, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The Services will be held August 29th at D.O. McComb & Sons Kovington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Rd. Fort Wayne IN.. Calling hours begin at 3:00 with services following at 4:00.
