John Ellsworth Rowe Jr.

John Ellsworth Rowe, Jr., age 80, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at home, with his family and dog, Moo, by his side. John was born to John E. and Winola L. Rowe, Sr., on May 21, 1941, in New Berlin, New York. John attended Tri-State University, majoring in engineering, in 1959. John decided a few months later, that this field would not be one that he would enjoy. He then took a job as a meat butcher, for Kroger Foods, in Auburn, Indiana. Twenty years and two children later, John retired. Not wanting to stop there, John became the town marshal for Ashley/Hudson, Indiana, in 1978. In 1981, he accepted a job offer for a Steuben County deputy sheriff. Enjoying his new found love of law enforcement, he was promoted to the rank of detective. John served the citizens of Steuben County, Indiana well; he retired in 2006, after twenty-five years of service.

This time, John decided it was time to kick back and relax; enjoying his wife and family; drinking coffee with his friends; trying every way that he could, to get family and friends to play a game of RISK or AGGRAVATION, cards or marbles with him.

John is survived by his loving wife of twenty-nine years, LaVonne Rowe, of Angola; his son, Michael (Diana)Rowe, of Ashley; his daughter, Brenda (Jason) Strebig, of Angola; his son, Daniel Murley, of Angola; his daughter, Christy Murley, of Angola; his son, Adam (Kori) Gonser, of Angola; his son, Danny (Cassy) Price, of Angola; his daughter, Chrystal (Ryan) Smith, of Kendallville; his son, Justin (Jessica) Price of Angola. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

John was predeceased by both of his parents, John E. Rowe, Sr.; his mother, Winola L Rowe, in 2013; his brother, Telford Rowe, in 2011.

It was John's wish to decline having a funeral or public gathering; a memorial service for the family, will be held privately.
