John "Mac" Charles Hilt Sr.

JOHN "MAC" CHARLES HILT SR., 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Bethlehem Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born March 4, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., he was a son of the late John and Isabell (Callahan) Hilt. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the World War II Era. Mac was the best shoe repairman in town and owner of Mac Shoe Shop for over 40 years from which he retired in 1992. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, past president of the Fraternal Order of Police Associate Lodge, and past president of the Well's Street Business Men's Association. Surviving are his daughter, Susan M. Blauvelt of Fort Wayne; son, John "Doc" (Therisa) Hilt Jr. of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Marianne Nicholson and Wanda Hilt, both of Dunkirk, Md.; and special friend, Marianne Graves of Fort Wayne. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosalee M. (Cluts) Hilt. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2015, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
