John “Doc” Charles Hilt Jr., 67, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born September 28, 1951 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late John Sr. and Rosalee (Clutz) Hilt. A graduate of North Side High School, class of 1970, Doc honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1970-1972. He was an Owner/Operator for 31 years and member of Concordia Lutheran Church for six years. Doc treasured his time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. A mall walker at Glenbrook, he enjoyed walking the opposite way so that he could say hello to everyone. His goal in life was to make people smile. He was living proof that kindness exists; he will be missed by so many. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Therisa (Baldwin) Hilt of Fort Wayne; daughter, Chona (Dillon) Otis of Michigan; sons, Wade Hilt of Fort Wayne and Joshua Hilt of Michigan; seven grandchildren, Jensen, Dean, Gaven, Ciara, Elysa, Haiden, and Dawsen; sisters, Jo-Ellen (Robert) Holben and Susan Blauvelt of Grabill; and a host of friends. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Don Blauvelt. Funeral Service will be at 10:00am on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Doug Croucher officiating. Calling will also be 2-4 & 6-8pm on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project.
