John R. Baker, 77, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. He was born to the late Clayton E. and Phyllis June (Ridgway) Baker on May 24, 1944 in Saint Joe, Indiana. He graduated from Riverdale High School in 1962. He attended Indiana University and then took welding classes at Ivy Tech. He was a Supervisor at Harvester, Magnavox and Grant Durbin. John Honorably served 4 years in the United States Air Force and 8 years in the Seabees. He was a member of American Legion Post 47 for 14 years, of which he was commander for one year, and then retired as manager in 2009. He was an avid Fisherman, loved to play Golf with his buddies and enjoyed reading. He married Sandra Lamley In 1992, she preceded him in death is 2018. Together, they loved to go to Florida in the winter once they retired. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Surviving is his companion, Sandy Aldrich; children, Jessica Gammon and Brandon Baker of Florida, and Tina Markey of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert, Jerry and Don Baker; sister, Susie Bohl; and he was especially close with, Roger, Linda and Brenda Baker. Also preceding him in death was a brother Bruce Baker. Calling will be Friday, February 18, 2022 from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 Saint Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835. Calling will also be one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be February 19, 2022 at the funeral home at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne.
