Janeen Swift Peters

Janeen Swift Peters, 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 in Fort Wayne Indiana at home with family by her side. Janeen was born in Marion, Indiana on August 16, 1937 to the late Robert Norris Swift and Bethel Lena (Brannan) Swift. She graduated from Mississinewa High School in Gas City, Indiana in 1955 becoming a Registered Nurse upon graduating Parkview School of Nursing in 1958. She was wed to Charles Connelly Peters in Gas City on May 22, 1960 and their 49-year happy marriage lasted until his passing in May 2009. She was a lifelong Methodist, a member of New Haven United Methodist Church for decades. Janeen returned to nursing after her sons reached their teens, a RN is the Parkview Neonatal ICU until retiring in 1996. She also volunteered as a Parkview Hospice volunteer to aid families bereavement. An adept genealogist, she researched the ancestry of her own family, joining Daughters of the American Revolution eventually serving as Mary Penrose Wayne (Fort Wayne) chapter as both secretary and registrar. Janeen also helped several other families reconstruct their Revolutionary War ancestral histories. Quilting was another avocation, making over 100 to give to friends and family over the years. Janeen loved listening to music while young, raising a family and continuing well into retirement – disco never died in the Peters household. The Bee Gees, The Doobie Brothers and George Gershwin were among favorite artists. Mother of three sons, Robert Charles (Julie Losher), Daniel Joseph (Richard Balfe) and preceded in death by David William. A grandmother of four, Elizabeth, Andrew, Kathryn and Abigail; two great-grandchildren, Josephine and Weston. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the funeral home. Private graveside services to follow at Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton, Indiana.
