Jim was awarded multiple Purple Hearts for his bravery and heroism in the Vietnam War, where he served honorably in the 25th infantry division as a sergeant. He was a devout Catholic and a member Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and always put his family first. He made a tremendous impact on everyone who knew him.
He worked at the Post Office after coming home from Vietnam. James obtained a Bachelor's degree from Purdue University in Engineering.
Jim attended both Bishop Luers and Bishop Dwenger High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years, Linda (Goebel). Linda entered Heaven on January 8, 2016 and lovingly welcomed Jim to spend eternity together. Jim has been reunited with his beloved wife, Linda, and son, Kevin in their Heavenly home.
After retirement, James spent his time with his wife and grandchildren and enjoyed tinkering with electronics in his spare time. He was an avid Colts, Notre Dame and Fort Wayne Komets fan. In his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the Fort Wayne VA.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Bruner, Jason Wilson, and Lauren (Jered) Adams; grandchildren, Ashley Bruner, Brooke Adams, and Lily Adams; siblings, Ann (Ed) Bobay, Jane (Bill) Hamm, David Wilson, Thomas (Michelle) Wilson, and John Wilson.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Wilson; son, Kevin Wilson; and sister, Mary Lou Sims.
Funeral service will be held at 4 pm on Monday, February 22, 2021 at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home (1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne). Visitation will be held 2 hour prior, from 2 to 4 pm.
Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
Memorial contributions in Jim's honor may be made to his grandchildren's college funds, in care of Lauren Adams.
