Hazel Lawson, 86, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at her home. She was born on February 20, 1934 in Leslie County, Kentucky. Hazel was the daughter of the late Carlie and Lula (Wooton) Back.
Hazel married Eugene Lawson on March 30, 1962 and cherished 26 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, Louan Lawson and Ronald (Jennifer) Lawson both of Avilla, Indiana, brother Carl "JC" Back of Dayton, Ohio, sisters, Wanda Fay Gunnell of Mt Sterling, Kentucky, Betty Sue Purvis of New Haven, Indiana, grandchildren, Jeremy Michael (Joyce) Linville, Sean Ronald (Mary) Lawson, Lacey Nicole (Chris) Justice, great grandchildren, Mataya Jenelle Justice, Ryden Christopher Justice and Charlotte Elyse Lawson and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Eugene, sisters, Margaret Irene Shrug, Irma Jeanette Riley and Shirley Rose Lawson, brothers, William Riley Back and Pearl Lester Back. Hazel worked as a head cook at Byron Health Center for over 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had several hobbies including gardening, cooking, fishing, camping, scrapbooking, crocheting and puzzles. Hazel had a huge heart and touched many lives. She had a hand in raising multiple generations of her family, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, January 30, 2021 at C.M. Sloan and Sons Funeral Home located (1327 North Wells Street, Fort Wayne), with visitation one hour prior to services. Visitation will also be held Friday, January 29, 2021 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home.
