Harold Riley Griffith, M.D., of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Sunday, January 7,2024, at the age of 103. He was born to Reverend Fred Griffith and Marvel Riley Griffith of Vevay, Indiana on August 4,1920. He graduated Vevay High School in 1938 and began college at Hanover College. He transferred his sophomore year to Cincinnati Conservatory of Music to pursue a career in voice. War in Europe suddenly involved the United States after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Graduating in music,he promptly re-enrolled at Indiana University Bloomington in Pre-Med. He was accepted into the Army Specialized Training Program at IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He met Angie Rebecca Hardigree at a USO dance which led eventually to the three children who survived him, Joel (Melinda), Fred Griffith, and Jenny Tepper. He served in the US Army until 1949 as Chief of Staff of 120th Station Medical Hospital, Bayreuth, Germany. Returning to Vevay he took over a general practice becoming the only physician in Switzerland County. He was able to find another physician to take over and he moved to Indianapolis for a three year Radiology Residency. He became Chief of Radiology at the Indianapolis VA. He moved to Fort Wayne Radiology at Parkview Hospital where he was a partner for 30 years. After moving to California he continued to work as radiologist part time and finally retired at age 89. In addition to the three children he is survived by grandchildren, Alexander, Winston, Sean (Rigel), Nathan, and Jordan; and great grandchildren, Rajah,Theodore, Jules, Vada, and Poppy.
