Frank Palermo

Fort Wayne - Beloved brother, uncle, godfather Frank Anthony Palermo, 84, of Fort Wayne, died on September 15, 2017. Mr. Palermo was born February 14, 1933, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to the late Alessandro and Venera (Vastano) Palermo. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Palermo worked at International Harvester for many years before becoming self-employed as a builder, constructing many beautiful homes in the Fort Wayne area. Frank also owned many Thoroughbred race horses in his lifetime, the most notable being Vodika, which won the Arkansas Derby in the 1980’s and was a likely candidate for the Kentucky Derby before becoming injured. With great love and compassion, Frank also unselfishly cared for his aging parents in their later years. Survivors include brother, Nick (Juanita) Palermo of Fort Wayne, and a sister, Phyllis (Larry) Gurtner of Auburn. Frank was also instrumental in the lives of his ten surviving nieces and nephews, and they were the lights of his life: Daniel (Vicki) Palermo, Gina (Craig) Osborn, Alex Palermo, Jeff Palermo, Diane (Brian) Blake, Judy (Derek) Sceats, Very Reverend Mark Gurtner, Tricia (Randy) Post, Tina (Parry) Leavell, and Lisa (Quinn) Moore. He also enjoyed precious visits from his many great nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, with Mr. Palermo’s nephew, Very Reverend Mark A. Gurtner, officiating. Burial immediately following with military honors at the Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Calling on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017,from 4 to 8pm at D.O.
