FLORENCE HARDY, of Fort Wayne, died in her sleep Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at her home. Born Dec. 4, 1929, in Fort Wayne, she was a daughter of Roy and Viola Kelly. Florence with her naturally platinum blond hair and blue eyes was always a mama's girl. It was from her mother, a gifted cook and baker, that she found her way around the kitchen. Even in her advancing years, she cooked two complete meals each day. At Christmas her greatest joy came from giving her carefully crafted candies, cookies, breads to others. Her casseroles and cakes were sought after at church suppers; perhaps a small accomplishments to some, but never to the "fine cook" Florence. Much more could be said about her life, her determination, her know-how, her sorrows. What will be most remembered is that
no matter the circumstance, she was always nice; an old-fashioned virtue for an old-fashioned girl. Mother to six sons, four of whom survived her, as well as several grandchildren, a few great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, two sisters, a brother, and her faithful friends Jenny and Fred. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne Street. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Preferred memorials to First Mennonite Church, 1213 St. Mary's Ave., Fort Wayne, IN. www.klaehnfahlmelton.com
