ELIZABETH ANN PIFER, of Greencastle, Ind., died on Sunday, June 22, 2014. Born Dec. 28, 1912, in New Springfield, Ohio, she was a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Davy Wheadon. She graduated Logansport High School, Wittenberg University, and received a Masters from Indiana University. She married the Rev. William L. Pifer in 1937. She started her teaching career in 1935 at Washington Township schools Cass County. She taught at Nora in Indianapolis, Redeemer Lutheran, and was the longtime director of the Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren nursery school, in Fort Wayne. She ended her teaching in 2001 for Rescare of Greencastle. She served as past president of the Wittenberg Guild Indianapolis, was past president of the Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary, served on the board of the Lutheran Social Services, was a member of the Kappa Delta Social Society, and Trinity English Lutheran Church. She is survived by her three children, George W. Pifer, Ruth Ann Wiegman and Mary Pifer Mountz; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1505 Bethany Lane, Fort Wayne (IN 46825).
