IN THE CARE OF
D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Covington Knolls
Elizabeth Ellen (Pelton) Callant, 92, passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at home after four days of being surrounded by her loving family and friends. The eldest of five children, she was born in 1929—just before the Great Depression—in Wellsville, N.Y., and was a daughter of LaRue and Irene Pelton.
While in nurse's training in New York, Elizabeth traveled to Vermont to marry Thomas Eugene Callant in 1951. When it was discovered that she was married, she was not allowed to finish school. Nevertheless, her life was marked by service to others. In addition to raising her six children, she led VBS, Bible studies, and was a mentor to many. Her many talents included cake decorating, knitting, crocheting, piano playing, and construction, and she was an incredible seamstress and a fabulous cook who catered many weddings and events. She was a long-time member of Broadway Christian Church and faithfully served in the Inasmuch Ministry for many years. Surviving are daughters, Linda (Dave) Smith of Louisville, Ky., Dede (Gary) Schierling of Grabill, Sandy Till, Lori (Dick) Fletcher and Debi (Matt) Shinn, all of Fort Wayne; son, Mark (Sandy) Callant of Fort Wayne; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Delores Crawley of Norco, Calif., and Helen Crounse of Albany, N.Y.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas; sister, Janet Noyes; brother, Lynn Pelton; son-in-law, Mike Till; and granddaughter, Amanda Shinn.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Ben Bouwers officiating. Visitation will also take place from 4:00 to 8:00pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the funeral home. Elizabeth will be laid to rest in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
