OBITUARY
Edwin E. Stumpf MD
27 February, 1919 – 28 February, 2013
Edwin E. Stumpf, MD, of Fort Wayne, formerly of New Haven, passed away, on Thursday, February 28, one day after his 94th birthday. Born in Fort Wayne he was a son of the late Ernest and Edna (Seaman) Stumpf. He was a 1936 graduate of Central High School, Fort Wayne and a 1941 graduate of Franklin College. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific for five years during WWII. He received his medical degree in 1950 from Indiana University, and for the next 50 years he practiced as a family physician and surgeon in New Haven including the last ten years specializing in geriatrics. No matter how busy he was he somehow found time to follow his passions of swimming, gardening, reading, scouting, and exploring. He had a big heart and volunteered into his 90s.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis (Peterson) Stumpf; his six children, Margaret “Peggy” Stumpf of Columbus, OH, Susan (Philip) Stumpf-Zuckerman of Eldred, N Y, Terry Stumpf of Denver, CO, Maribeth “Buffie” Stumpf of Sparks, NV, Ed Stumpf II of Kapaa, HI, and Jeffrey (Barb) Stumpf of Roanoke; sisters, Betty (Dan) Wyckoff, and Nan Koch; four grandchildren Hannah and Zoe Zuckerman of Eldred, NY, Andrew and Kevin Stumpf of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by siblings Helen Lunz, Henry Stumpf, Ernie Hire, and Ray Stumpf.
A sharing of anecdotes and celebration of Dr. Stumpf’s life will be held from 2 to 4 PM Saturday, March 9, beginning with military honors at 2 pm at the Towne House, 2209 St. Joe Center Road, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Franklin College,⋅ 101 Branigin Blvd. ⋅ Franklin, IN 46131, the Fort Wayne Historical Society,302 E.
