Donald “Don” Douglass, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Canterbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born November 17, 1928, in Auburn, Indiana, Don was the son of the late Robert Frank and Bessie Mae (Ingersol) Douglass. He was a proud graduate of Northside High School and went on to earn an Associate Degree. He was also a proud veteran who served in the Army’s Infantry and Air Corps from 1948 to 1953. On May 5, 1956, Don married the love of his life, Betty (Smith), who preceded him in death in 2019. Together they spent 64 years raising their family and building a life together. Don was employed the majority of his working years as an independent insurance agent. He was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne and was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with family, serving in the Church, and being at the lake with his wife. Don enjoyed his “lake life” mainly on Clear Lake, fishing and relaxing on the water. Privileged to have shared in his life are his son, David (Marcie) Douglass; daughter, Christine Croom; grandchildren, Elizabeth (David) Ledbetter, Callie Croom, Eric (Robin) Douglass, Colin Croom, and Chloe Croom; great-grandchildren, Warren and Teddy Ledbetter; nephew, Tom (Shelby) Douglass; and niece, Susan Hershberger. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Douglass; his brother, Eugene Douglass; his sister, Helen Shipley; and his parents. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 Saint Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835, with visitation one hour prior. A private burial will occur at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in Fort Wayne at the conclusion of the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity English Lutheran Church in Don’s name.
