David A. Childs, 85, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Parkview Regional Medical Center due to complications from COVID, surrounded in love by his family. Born on March 21, 1937, in Morgantown, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Bucklew) Childs. He was raised in Terra Alta and Parkersburg, West Virginia, and was a 1955 graduate of Parkersburg High School. David then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1959 from Marshall University. In 1962, David married Donna Daudel in Andrew, Iowa. They lived in Clinton, Iowa, for several years where he was employed by Hawkeye Chemical Company. In 1968, they moved to Grinnell, Iowa, where he began his career at GTE. They raised their son Jon, and daughter Suzanne there prior to David being transferred in 1989 to Fort Wayne, Indiana. He retired from GTE in 1997, after more than 25 years of service as a Billing Manager. Following his retirement from GTE, David did Private Consulting and spent many years volunteering at the Community Center teaching computer classes to seniors. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna (Daudel) Childs; daughter, Suzanne (Betsy) Childs, of St Paul, Minnesota; son, Jon (Sarah) Childs, of Plainfield, Illinois; brother, James (Maxine) Childs, of Parkersburg, West Virginia; as well as three grandchildren, Chloe, Jacob, and Zachary, all of Illinois; as well as many nieces and nephews. Private family services have been held. Memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association or Donor's Choice.
