Obituary of Carol Rose Blum
Carol Rose Blum, 86, passed away June 13th, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born October 5, 1937, in Fort Wayne, IN, the daughter of Thomas J. and Glendora Agnes Ryan. Carol graduated from New Haven High School in 1955. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. Carol is survived by her daughter, Kari (Steve) Schaadt, sons, Kevin (Glenda) Blum, Kurtis Blum, all of Fort Wayne, sisters, Marsha Chaney of Leo, IN; Brenda Miller of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Brandon (Cass) Schaadt, Britni (Tom) Smolko, Brandi (Rob) Glover, Brooke (Cody) Tyler, Ryan Blum, Rachael (Jesse) Van Engelenhoven, Landon Stroupe, great grandchildren, Mila Van Engelenhoven, Weston Glover, Aiden Glover, Zach Baugher, Ben Baugher, and Lukas Schaadt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard P. Blum, in 2005, and her daughter, Kristi Stroupe, in 2009. Carol worked at Char-King as a cook and was a homemaker. She enjoyed IU basketball and the friendly rivalry with Purdue, of which her husband, Dick, was an avid fan. She was the center of her family, gave wonderful advice and was full of life. She was quick-witted, funny, and kind. Carol will be greatly missed by her dog, Gunner, who kept her company. She loved to read and preferred Danielle Steel and a good mystery. She was a longtime lover of QVC and garage sales. She loved to travel with her husband to the House on the Rock, the Smokey Mountains, and Myrtle Beach. She enjoyed being outdoors, tending to her flowers, and watching for orioles and hummingbirds. Carol was a resident of Waynedale for over 60 years and knew the staff at Azar’s and Rich’s by name. She loved a good cup of decaf coffee, but it had to be fresh. She could never have too many Burger King frozen cokes in her freezer. She made the best Texas cake and cranberry salad the world has ever known. Her true passion in life was her family and reading to her great grandchildren.
