Obituary of Alice J. McRae
ALICE JEAN (MILLER) McRAE, 94, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, from natural causes. Born April 3, 1927, in Elwood, she was a daughter of Edna and Jesse Miller. She graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School, Indiana University, and received her Master's degree at University of Saint Francis. She met her husband, Tom, playing bridge at IU. They were married for 51 years. Alice touched hundreds of children's lives at Village Elementary School where she taught for 26 years. Other organizations that she was active in included: Fort Wayne Museum of Art as a docent, Newcomers, Allen County Retired Teachers, Study Connection, Alpha Xi Delta alumni, Good Shepherd U.M.C., and Delta Kappa Gamma. Alice enjoyed travel, bridge, golf, reading and family get togethers. Alice is survived by a brother, Judge Ray Miller of Chicago; a daughter, Linda (Bill) Becker of Huntertown; grandchildren, Catherine (Phil) Lapar, Charlotte, NC and Brent (Billie) Becker, of Fort Wayne; great- grandchildren, Kinley, Hadley Alice, Greyson, Julian, and Sebastian; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom McRae; sister, Margaret (Jim) Ward; son, Jim; and granddaughter, Beth Becker. Alice's grace and love was shared with all she met. A Celebration of Life service is noon Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Rd., with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the following: Turnstone - speech department, Good Shepherd U.M.C. - education or Heartland Hospice.
