Robert was born on October 25, 1948 in DeWitt, AR. Robert was retired from the city of Fort Smith, where he was a dispatcher for the water department. Before working for the city of Fort Smith, he was a proud farmer and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct (1st award), the RVN Cross of Gallantry with palm and gold frame.
During his lifetime, Robert was active in both the American Legion and the Jaycee’s. He loved to paint Bob Ross’ paintings and designing computer programs and playing the games he designed. He loved his grandchildren and was their biggest supporter.
He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Gibbs, of Maumelle; his grandson Bear Gibbs, of Maumelle; his granddaughter Olivia Gibbs, of Maumelle; and his loving partner Kathy Gibbs, of Maumelle; his sister Judy Gibbs, of Cabot; his sister Ruth Ann Mitchell (Jimmy), of Benton; and many nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents Bud and Ruth Gibbs; and sister Mary Nell Hammons, and his beloved dog Cass.
Graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, October 2, 2023 at the pavilion of the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
