Peter Nichols Schutz, 77, of Fort Smith, passed away, Saturday, January 14, 2017 in Fort Smith. He was born July 20, 1939 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late Paul Benjamin Schutz and Helen Nichols Schutz. Peter was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he retired as a Commander in the Naval Air Reserves. He served on the State Board of the March of Dimes and the Board of the Fort Smith Boys Shelter.
Peter was involved in coordinating sports activates for special needs children and was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Peter was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and loyal friend.
Peter is survived by his wife, Kimberly Schutz of Fort Smith; two sons, Alex Schutz of Williams, OR and Matthew Schutz of Fort Smith; one sister, Stephanie Huber of Maryland; one brother, Ben Schutz of Lucca, Italy; and one granddaughter, Vivienne Schutz.
Memorial service will be Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Episcopal Church with inurnment to follow in the St. John’s Columbarium. Services and cremation are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends in the Parish Hall of St. John’s Episcopal Church following the services.
