Nancy Young Green, of Fort Smith, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024. She was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Virginia Hawkins Young, and was preceded in death by her mother, and her husband, Donnie R. Green.
She attended Fort Smith Junior High and Fort Smith Senior High School, where she was a member of Delta Beta Sigma sorority and graduated in 1958.
After attending Westark Junior College, she reconnected with the love of her life, Donnie R. Green, in 1962. They were married in 1964 and were happily married for 52 years. Throughout those years, she and Donnie chaired almost every class reunion for the Fort Smith Senior High School class of 1958.
For many years, she was a wonderful stay at home mom and then worked for Day & Nite Cleaners and Mr. Rob’s Cleaners, where she absolutely loved the social aspects of her job. In addition to managing their books and accounts, she was also in charge of talking to almost every single customer that came to the cleaners. It was always a highlight of her day to connect with so many friends and acquaintances. However, her most important job was being Nannie to her seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Throughout her life, she also served the community in many ways. She was the first PTA President at Woods Elementary School, when it opened in 1976, and served in many volunteer capacities at First Presbyterian Church, Chaffin Junior High and Southside High School.
In addition to work and her community service, she loved playing bridge with her bridge group of over 50 years, and most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. Whether it was dancing with her husband Donnie, cooking for their weekly Sunday night family dinners, or just being with them at their lake house at Mountain Harbor Resort on Lake Ouachita, she loved them all and they will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her brother Gary Young, her daughter Meredith Simpson (Dan), their children, Paige Snider (Reed), Evan Simpson (Victoria), and Rachel Simpson, her son Jason Green (Kim), their children Reiss Efurd (Payton), Abby Callaway (Matt), Will Green, and Jack Green, and three great grandchildren James Snider, Miles Snider and Jase Efurd. She is also survived by her niece, Kellie Brown.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 1 from 5 – 7 pm at the First Presbyterian Church Family Fellowship Hall. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, at 1 pm at First Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Evan Simpson, Will Green, Jack Green, Payton Efurd, Matt Callaway, and Kirk Bockelman.
Nancy had a true servant heart, always serving and supporting the needs of others, before her own. She was an amazing example of character and love to her family and will be dearly missed.
