One of six children, she became a caregiver to her younger siblings at a very young age. She entered nurses training in 1944 and in 1945 continued her education at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, then, as a senior, returned to Fort Smith entering the nursing cadet program.
She married Fuller Glidewell on February 12, 1949 at Goddard United Methodist Church, where she remained an active member for over 65 years. She became Director of Nursing at Methodist Nursing Home in 1966. In 2013, she was honored as the longest standing member of the Sparks Woman’s Board.
Modena was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Thomas and Ona Victoria Webb; her brothers, Wayne, Lee, Don and Jeff Webb; her husband, Frank Fuller Glidewell; her son, Stephen David Glidewell; and her granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Glidewell.
Modena is survived by her granddaughters, Stephanie Foster and her husband Steven of Fort Smith and Sydney Hunsicker of Little Rock, Arkansas; her sister, Juanita Walker of Van Buren; a daughter, Dolores Pohle of Palm Desert, California; a daughter in law, Robin Nordin and her husband Jan; great grandchildren, Nicholas Sharp, Eleanor Sharp and Alexis Foster, all of Fort Smith.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith. Funeral Service will be Thursday at 10:00 am at Goddard United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Carolan Cemetery in Booneville, Arkansas, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Steven Foster, Nicholas Sharp, Jan Nordin, Michael T. Webb, Michael L. Webb, Gary Walker and Bob Martin.
