Michael Lee Dye, 74, of Fort Smith passed away on October 24, 2022 at Baptist Health. He was born November 5, 1947 to the late John and Betty Dye. Mike served in the National Guard and in the United States Navy and was proud to have been of service to his country. He retired from Rheem Manufacturing after a 35 year career as a supervisor in the marketing communications department.
His work included extensive travel which allowed him to indulge his love of golf by playing at many prestigious golf courses, including the Augusta Golf Club. One of the highlights of his golf adventures was playing a round with the legendary golfer, Arnold Palmer at Latrobe Country Club and meeting Arnold’s wife, Winnie. Mike also enjoyed annual golf trips with his friends for many years.
Mike was a quiet person and a man of few words unless he was discussing politics or the Razorbacks. He was an avid fan of all Razorback sports, but loved watching basketball the most. He and his friend, John Combs had many deep conversations about political matters and the ups and downs of Razorback sports. Mike was a proud grandpa to his four beautiful granddaughters: Emily, Rebecca, Avery, and Sarah.
Mike was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was honored to serve as the Chairman of the Avenue of Flags. In February of 1981, Mike presided over the presentation of 52 American flags to honor the return of 52 American hostages held by Iran.
