Mattie Lee Peevy passed away in Richardson, Texas on June 5, 2014. She was born Mattie Lee Anthony on February 5, 1925. She was married to William Hanna and had two sons. Widowed early, she then married Jared Roscoe Peevy and had a daughter. They resided in Fort Smith, Arkansas for most of their lives.
Jared was a Fort Smith fireman and Mattie worked for Two States Petroleum Company. She was known for having a flair for fashion and decorating. Her taste was eclectic often mixing African and Asian prints. Her favorite piece of advice was to dress to walk the runway each and every day of your life.
She is preceded in death by husband, William Hanna, son William A. Hanna who was killed in Vietnam and husband Jared Roscoe Peevy. She is survived by son, Richard Hanna and his wife Margaret who live in Springfield, Missouri and daughter, Jaclyn Peevy Johnston and her husband Eliot who resides in Richardson, Texas. There are also three grandchildren, Monte Hanna from Springfield, Stephen Johnston from Manhattan, New York and Jenifer Johnston from Dallas, Texas.
The family will greet friends from 10:30am to 12:00pm Friday, November 27, 2015 at Edwards Funeral Home, with a memorial graveside following at 2:00pm at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Local services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
