Mary Kaye Smith

Mary Kaye Smith, 74, of Fort Smith AR passed away on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 in her assisted living residence. She was born June 18, 1948, in Fort Smith to Rudolph Smith and Mary Jo (Homan) Smith. Both preceded her in death.

She is survived by her siblings James Michael “Mike” Smith and Jane (Smith) Ball, both of Fort Smith. Also, nephews Jeff and Kurt Smith, Justin Ball and one niece Jessica Ball plus multiple great nephews and nieces. She loved to attend the family reunions, getting together with all of the cousins.

Mary Kaye was a 1966 graduate of St. Anne’s Academy. She attended St. Edwards School of Nursing, graduating in 1969. That year she moved to Denver Colorado and worked at a Mercy Hospital there. She was adventuresome, traveling to other countries such as Africa, Morocco and Germany to name a few. She loved skiing, roaming the Rockies, rafting, anything outdoors. In 1999 she moved back to Fort Smith, working at Sparks Hospital until her retirement around 2015. After moving back to Arkansas, Mary Kaye became interested in training her Schipperke dogs, joined the AKC Schipperke and became involved in showing her dogs. In 2006 she proudly won 1st place in one of the shows.

The Family will visit with friends at Edwards Funeral Home from 5-6 PM Friday April 14 followed by a Rosary service at 6PM. The Arkansas Nurses Honor Guard will be in attendance.
