Margot was a dearly loved wife, mother, and grandmother, and a treasured friend.
Born in Altmark, Germany on October 31, 1925 to the late Julius and Helene (Plätzer) Stein, Margot grew up in nearby Lünen. Margot's early childhood nurtured her empathetic spirit, lifelong love of learning, and an affection for black licorice and marzipan.
A Holocaust survivor, Margot immigrated to America in 1951, bringing along a quiet resilience and endless curiosity with which she faced each new day. Margot’s warm heart and sense of humor led her to quickly be welcomed by her dear cousins Jeannette and Jennings Stein and her extended U.S. family who had already settled in Fort Smith.
Also in Fort Smith, Margot met the love of her life, the late Dr. Samuel Z. Faier. They married in 1954 and lovingly raised their family and lived their lives together until his death in 1994.
Margot loved reading and learning, whether about current events or what was new with family and friends.
Throughout her life, Margot was active in many community organizations including the United Hebrew Congregation Sisterhood, Bonneville House Association, Broadway Theater League, Junior Civic League and PTA.
Margot is survived by her beloved daughters Susan Faier of Chicago, Illinois and Lynn Faier Benton (and son-in-law Gary Benton) of Palo Alto, California, her cherished grandchildren Julia and Brian Benton, and her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her family would like to give special thanks to Marilyn Pennington and Home Instead Senior Care for the warmth and care they gave Margot.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 Monday morning February 26 at Fort Smith Jewish Cemetery, 843-865 Lexington (corner of H St. & Lexington), Fort Smith.
