Mabel E. Maxey, 96, of Fort Smith, died November 11, 2013 in Charleston, AR. She was born January 25, 1917, in Jacksonville, TX to the late J.J. and Cannary Simmons Douglas. Mabel was a seamstress at Riverside Furniture and a member of Evangel Temple.
She is survived by her daughter Virginia Green and her husband, Maurice of Lavaca; a son, W.J. “Dub” McCorkle and his wife, Sherri of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, Stanley and Brian Green, Alesia Balch, Rebecca Green, Jennifer Cox, Todd, Kimberly and Cody McCorkle and Shelli Baldwin; twenty eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lonnie McCorkle and L.L. Maxey; a son, Escue Douglas; a sister Jewel Davis and a brother, Moody Douglas.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Stanley and Brian Green, Larry Balch, Todd and Cody McCorkle and Jeb Baldwin. Funeral services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
