Luther Wayne Smith, 96, of Fort Smith, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022. He was born on June 3, 1926 in Danville, AR. He was a retired Furniture Manufacturing Representative, having worked with several companies in his career. Wayne was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Wayne was the only surviving Charter Member of the Downtown Sertoma Club established in 1953. He also served as President and was selected “Sertoman of the Year” several times.
He is preceded in death by both parents, Luther and Frances Smith of Danville, Arkansas, and a brother, Otis W. Smith of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Smith of the home, a niece, Joann Neal and husband Andy, a great niece, Jennifer Brammer and husband Michael, two great great nieces, Breck and Brinn Brammer and a great great nephew, Brush Brammer, all of Van Buren, AR.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Public viewing will be from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM Monday, January 2, 2023 at the funeral home.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Sertoma Club members and the Clifhangers Sunday School Class of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
