She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fort Smith for over 50 years and an active member of P.E.O.
Judy was born on October 4, 1941, in Tupelo, MS to Mary Ellen and John Adair Fraser. Her parents raised her and her two sisters in Fort Smith, AR. Upon graduating high school Judy attended Lindenwood College & the University of Arkansas. In 1961 she married Harold Owens and together they raised two sons, Fraser and Barry. Later Judy returned to school and upon graduation from the University of the Ozarks, she launched her teaching career, retiring from Fort Smith Public Schools in 2010 after more than 20 years of teaching and mentoring a multitude of students.
Judy was preceded in death by her son, Fraser Owens.
She is survived by her son, Barry Owens (Jana) of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; three grandsons, Jack Owens (Mackenzie), Henry Owens (Molly), and Grady Owens (Hannah); two great-children; her sisters, Adair Smith (Cleburne) of Plano, TX, and Kay Combs (Larry) of Fort Smith; and seven nephews and their families.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the narthex of First United Methodist Church followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. in Roebuck Chapel, with burial to follow at Forest Park Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
