Carolyn Joyce Mays Jordan was born on August 20th, 1952, to the union of E. J. Mays and Mary B. Lanier Mays in Greenwood, Mississippi. Carolyn was the 8th of 12 children. She was educated in the Fort Smith Public School System. She was employed for 30 years at Southwestern Bell and AT&T as management, where she retired. She then went on to retire from American Airlines after 10 years.
In 1983 Carolyn was joined in holy matrimony with Amos Jordan. This union was blessed with a daughter, Amber L. Jordan, and a granddaughter, Jordyn Nelson. Carolyn gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, where she was involved in all aspects of the church. She was chairman of the Calendar Club, a member of the Missionary Society, Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, and anywhere her talents were needed.
In her downtime, Carolyn loved to travel, read, and plan activities at her church.
Carolyn gained her wings on Friday, December 15, 2023. Preceding her in death was her father: E. J. Mays, Sr., mother: Mary B. Mays; sisters: Mattie Sanders, Emma J. Smith, and Luella Ward. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter: Amber L. Jordan (Frisco, TX); granddaughter: Jordyn Nelson (Frisco, TX); brothers: E.J. Mays, Jr., William Mays, James F. Mays, all of Fort Smith, George Mays (St. Louis, MO); sisters: Mary Owens, Gloria Mays Wright, Arnoldine Castleberry, Earnestine Bradley; adopted aunt: Theola Oliver, all of Ft. Smith, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will hold an all day visitation on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Earnestine Bradley's home at 805 N 13th Street, Fort Smith, AR 72901.
A visitation to celebrate Carolyn's life will be Friday, December 22nd from 5pm-7pm at Edwards Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 23rd at 11am at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Washington Cemetery to follow.
