Marilynn Rose Horyn, 81, of Gibbon’s, Alberta passed away peacefully at home on May 11, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Her presence will be missed by family, friends and many dear sisters and brothers.
Marilynn was born on March 24, 1943 the eldest daughter to Rose and Rudy of Edmonton, Alberta. She is predeceased by her Mom and Dad; her schwester's as they fondly referred to themselves - Karen, Joanie and Joy; as well as her niece Chelsea and nephew Aaron.
She married the love of her life Norm on July 20, 1963 and for the next 60 years they unitedly built a life instilled with a love of family, just as Jehovah treasured them to have. Together they raised five wonderful children Lisa, Michael, Jason, Suzy and Marie.
One of Marilynn's greatest accomplishments was her family, whom she loved dearly and took pride in. She was a cherished friend, a dedicated wife, a loving mother and mother in-law to Juri and Keith as well as a proud grandmother to Levi, Sam, Jordynne, Kole, Hailey and Ava.
Marilynn was a loyal servant of Jehovah first and foremost. In 1970 alongside Norm she dedicated her life to doing god's will. One of her most treasured pastimes was to talk about the truth with her family and friends. She loved the bible and sharing the love and hope found within with as many people as possible.
Marilynn will be remembered for her great smile, infectious laugh as well as her thoughtful and generous nature, always putting others before herself. She was a loyal friend who brought warmth and kindness to all those around her.
After retiring from Alberta Education, in her free time, Marilynn found joy in her passions, traveling to new places, tending to her garden, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, hosting family and friends, and getting lost in a good book.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, compassion and most importantly an example of faith in her God Jehovah, that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
When faced with loss Marilynn found comfort in the words of her favourite song #182 and she would encourage us to do the same. It reads in part -
(Jeremiah 8:22)
There’s balsam in fair Gilead;
This from God’s Word we hear.
It comfort brings to troubled hearts
And helps grief disappear.
It soothes us when we’re sorely tried
Or deeply are distressed,
Or we have lost some loved dear one,
Who in death’s sleep does rest.
Just call to mind that God is love,
Is wise, almighty, true.
Whate’er his providence now sends
Can work out well for you.
So on this God of comfort call
In frequent, earnest pray’r.
Pour out your soul; hold nothing back;
Tell him your ev’ry care.
We eagerly await her smile, laughter, and the warmth of her hugs through the assurance she held so much confidence in - the promise made at Revelation 21:3,4.
