She is also survived by her brothers: Dempster (Carol) and Leonard; her sisters-in-law Marlene Dumonceaux and Lillian Pare; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Val is predeceased by her husband Paul; parents William and Hazel Turton; stepmother Nettie Turton; brothers-in-law Harvey and Emilien Dumonceaux, and many family members and dear friends over the years.
Valerie was born in St.Boniface, MB. She met Paul when she was visiting her Aunt Fern and Uncle Stanley, and they married October 25, 1969. They settled together on a farm outside of Kipling, SK. and raised 4 girls, participating in the raising and showing of purebred Horned Hereford cattle, and farming until just before Dad passed away in 2002.
Val contributed in many different clubs and activities over the years. She was a member of the Rebekahs (IOOF), the Saskatchewan Women’s Institute, and a 4-H Club Leader. Once her kids were old enough to look out for themselves and each other, she started working as a cook at different restaurants throughout the years, finally settling at the Can-Am Truck Stop in Whitewood. She made Whitewood her home for many years after Dad had passed, then deciding to move back to Kipling. At the behest of her eldest, Crystal, she moved to Fort Qu’Appelle. There, she was able to spend time with some of her grandkids, make new friends, and enjoy life in the valley.
Val loved being a Grandma so much! Every minute she was able to spend with her grandkids and great-grandkids was precious to her. She flew out to Ontario to visit Michelle and her family in 2019, where she experienced Niagara Falls and visited Sarnia. She was also a big Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, and attended a few games at both the old and new stadiums. Val got to see Sir Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks and Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash in concert. She was also able to go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with Theresa, Jackie and Crystal for her birthday.
The family would like to thank the staff of All Nations Healing Hospital, Fort Qu’Appelle; Valley Ambulance Service, Fort Qu’Appelle; and the staff of the Regina General Hospital (ER and ICU), for their tremendous care of Valerie.
A come and go tea will be held at a later date.
The family requests that if you feel so inclined, wear your favorite team colors. We may even have the infamous Banjo Bowl playing!
Donations in Valerie’s name may be made to your favorite charity.
