It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce that our papa, father, husband, brother and uncle, Mervin Joseph Missens Jr. has been called home by the Creator on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the age of 57 years old.
Mervin was predeceased by his parents Mervin Missens Sr. and Lorna Missens, sons Mervin Jordan Missens and Justin Missens, brother, Vincent “Ben" Missens, father-in-law Clifford Garneau, mother-in-law Kathleen ‘Ida’ Desjarlais, brothers-in-law Delbert Houle, Shawn Desjarlais and Todd Desjarlais, sister-in-law Naomi Desjarlais.
Mervin is survived by his wife Deidre Missens (nee: Desjarlais), son Joseph Missens (Josephine) and daughter Jessica Missens, brothers Richard Missens (Dorothy), Ron Missens (Jennifer), sisters Bonnie Missens and Lana George (Michael), grandchildren, Memphisz, Kahtahleeah, Leilah, Akira, Aiden, Cadell, Quentin, Rydell, Isaac, Hayden, Shawna, Jaydah, Nevaeh, Phoenix, Justice, Kairo and Keiran, and many Aunties, Uncles, nieces and nephews.
Mervin grew up on the Pasqua First Nation. He spent many years working in housing before he was unable to. He loved working on his home and working on his vehicles. Mervin’s Indian name was ‘Pinēhsī pimāhsi kīšikonk’ which means Bird Flying In The Sky. He loved his children and grandchildren, and they loved him. He suffered much in his final years, and it brings them comfort knowing that he is no longer suffering.
Wake was held at Chief Ben Pasqua Memorial Hall, Friday, December 23, 2022, at 4:00 pm. Traditional service took place the next day on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location and interment was in the Missens Family gravesite. Elder Harry Francis officiated.
The family would like to give special thanks to Chief Todd Peigan, Pasqua First Nation, Fort Qu’Appelle EMS and Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP.
