Grace was born August 7, 1923. She was the first daughter to Bert and Evelyn Bousfield of Ceylon, SK fourth in line with 6 brothers and 1 sister. She grew up on the family farm and went to Ceylon for all her schooling.
After graduating, she went to Regina to Normal School. Upon completion, Grace's teaching career took her to Hughsvale School. Here she met and married Gordon Burley, son of Lew and Agnes Burley as she boarded at their farm.
Grace stopped teaching when they moved to Liberty, SK. Their first daughter Joan was born here. They later moved to Brooking near Ceylon. After two years, they moved back to Fort Qu’Appelle where their son Dennis was born. A second daughter Janet was born two years later.
Mom was the usual farm wife working alongside dad plus looking after us, the house and yard especially her flowers. She also sold cream and eggs for extra money. She did enjoy community life joining the Hughsvale Sewing Circle, going to church at the local small white church on the corner where she also taught Sunday school.
As her children graduated mom started to work at various jobs in Fort Qu’Appelle and Fort San, in the post office, Gartner’s Bakery and Valley Smart Fashions.
When mom and dad sold the farm, they moved into a condo in town where she stayed even after the passing of Gordon in 2004. She later moved to assisted living then on to Wolseley Care Home in 2021 where she passed on July 13, 2023; three weeks and four days short of her 100th birthday!
Grace is survived by her children Joan (Jack) Webb, Dennis (Diane) Fort Qu’Appelle, Janet (Glen) Regina, 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister Ida, brother Ben, sister-in-law Vi Bousfield as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by Gordon in 2004, brothers: Jack (Helen), George (W.W.2), Orville and Herb, brother-in-law Walter Sambrook, sister-in-law Jeanette Bousfield, also an infant great-grandson Gregory James.
A family interment will be held at a later date.
We love and miss you Mom, but will always try to live up to your motto:
“It is only what you make of it”!
