March 6, 1954 - January 27, 2021
Steven Karl Hartman, 66, of Stuart, FL passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at his home in Vero Beach, FL. Survived by his beloved wife Pamela of 36 years, his son Ralph W Hartman IV (Emily) and his daughter, Clara Kathleen Margaret Albano (Joseph). Forever known as “Pappy Paw” by his five grandchildren Levi, Finn, Johnny, Michael, and Garnet. Brother to Kaye, Karen (predeceased), Ralph III, Ricou, and Peter.
Steven spent over 35 years as a Master U.S. Merchant Marine Officer sailing the high seas from Gibraltar to Singapore in every latitude, longitude, clime and place. He’d been on every ocean and to ports beyond count and imagination through seas unfathomable. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a Bosun’s Mate (BM2). He was a 32nd Degree Freemason and member of the Acacia Lodge No. 163 F&AM of Stuart, FL.
As a Florida native, born and raised, he loved the water. He had a passion for being out in the world and enjoying all of God’s creation. He enjoyed breaking a sweat with a daily run, stopping to chat with whoever crossed his path. He loved conversation and to tell stories and he had many! After his runs he would take a dip in the ocean or a pool and find solace in floating, looking up at the sky. He was an avid local and world historian, well versed in the comings and goings of civilization.
Steven was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother.
A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stuart, FL. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Jensen Beach, FL. The family requests that any flowers be delivered directly to church on Saturday.
