Laura was born in Malta on January 6, 1917 to Roger and Catherine Borg. In 1929 she had an opportunity to travel from Malta to Michigan with her father for a brief period of time. She eventually returned to Malta but knew that one day she would return to live in the U.S. She married Louis Fsadni in Malta on June 6, 1942 and their first three children, Roger, Miriam and Frank, were born there. In November of 1949, Laura's husband Lou, immigrated to Canada and secured a job as a power lineman. Several months later, Lou secured passage for Laura and their three children, then ages 7, 4 and 2. Laura was an incredibly strong woman and made the arduous week's long journey from Malta to the U.S. aboard the SS Brasil in June of 1950. Once off the ship, they boarded a train to Ontario, Canada to meet up with her husband. They eventually established their residence in Livonia, Michigan where they had four more children, Rose, Barbara, Jeffrey and Sandra. In 1966 Lou was offered the opportunity to be the plant manager for Vero Grand in Vero Beach, Florida where they lived for 30 years. Laura and her husband were very involved with the Vero Beach Power Squadron, and also enjoyed boating and entertaining friends and family who would often come to visit. Laura would often say that all she wanted was to enjoy her children and grand children and was her happiest when they came to visit. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed making both Maltese and American dishes for her family. She was also a remarkable seamstress and loved to knit, oftentimes knitting beautiful sweaters, hats, scarves, mittens and blankets for her children and grandchildren. Laura, who never had a driver's license, learned to drive at the age of 62, much to the chagrin of her husband. Laura loved country western music (Sonny James being one of her favorite artists), bowling and was a master at Dominos, Rumikub, Bunko and other various card games which she enjoyed playing regularly with her friends and family. Laura enjoyed traveling to visit her children and grandchildren in Michigan and New Hampshire and even made several trips back to Malta to visit her relatives there. In 1997 at the age of 80 she built a house in Sebastian, Florida across the street from her daughter Miriam and son-in-law Don, where she lived for 13 years. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Sebastian Parish. In 2010 she moved to Glenbrooke in Palm Bay, a senior retirement community where she enjoyed a full life participating in many different activities with the many friends she made there. The last two years of Laura's life were spent at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Melbourne, Florida. Laura managed to capture the hearts of all staff and caretakers there who truly loved and cared for her until her passing. St. Francis Hospice also stepped in to help with Laura's care and the nurses and staff also became very attached to Laura as well. Our family is forever grateful to both Atlantic Shores and St. Francis Hospice for their love and support.
Laura's love, strength and courage will be remembered by all those who lives she touched. She will be greatly missed by all and forever remain in our hearts.
Services held will be private.
