Charles attended The Citadel Military College in South Carolina. Having a rich passion for history, Charles collected and restored antique clocks and automobiles to perfection. Some examples include a a 1931 Packard, a 1948 MGTC, and a 1928 Cadillac Fisher Body, one of only two ever made, which was sold to Hollywood for use in motion pictures. His 1961 Dormobile Land Rover traveled three continents.
Charles traveled to his father’s birth country of Ireland on the Queen Elizabeth. He built four homes in Blairsville, Georgia and owned an orchard and garden in Henderson, North Carolina.
Charles’s true love was his faith in God and he was a devoted follower of Dr. Charles Stanley and In Touch Ministries and supported many charities.
Charles is survived by his sister Barbara Thompson and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he loved as his own. His nephew James Thompson Casciari and nieces Barbaralee Monday and Billielou McLaughlin, his great nephew William Ryan Wykoff, great nieces Ashlee Elizabeth Wykoff, Austin Thompson McLaughlin and Chase Collyer McLaughlin, and his great-great nieces Charlie James Chadwick and Lilah Thompson Chadwick.
