William Raymond Benyak, 87, died Friday, August 10, 2018 at his home in Fort Myers, FL. He was born February 27, 1931 in Cleveland, OH the son of William and Hannah (nee Gross) Benyak.
He graduated from Wittenberg College in 1952 and served in the U S Army from September of 1953 until September of 1955. He then attended Des Moines Medical University graduating in 1965. He was a practicing physician in Flint, MI for over 25 years and retired to Florida in 1987.
Active in many civic and community affairs, he was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, and the Kiwanis Club where he started a special Equestrian Program for Handicapped Children and served as the first President and Treasurer of that program.
He served as a board member of Nations for 16 years, and one of the first board members of the Cypress Condo Association. He was also a member of the Mended Hearts. In his spare time he tutored anatomy and physiology at Edison Community College.
He was a founding member of the All Faiths Unitarian Universalist
Congregation where he served as a member of the finance committee.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Donalie M (nee Burgoyne) Benyak and by a daughter, Val Rae Gill. He will be greatly missed.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at All Faiths Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 2756 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33901.
