Ginny was born February 28, 1924 in Dayton, OH as the third child of Joseph and Elizabeth Zumwald. Her siblings, Elizabeth, Joseph, Martha and Mildred lived on a farm outside Dayton and they all graduated from Dixie High School. Ginny was proud to attend many of the Dixie Class of ’42 reunions. After high school Ginny graduated from cosmetology school and worked many years in the Dayton area in various salons. She competed and won awards at the state level for hair style and design.
Ginny married her high school sweetheart Marcus “Sonny” Comer. Sonny left to serve in WWII in the Army. Before he left, Ginny gave him an engraved ID Bracelet that he never took off. He came home on a brief leave and met their son Marcus. Soon after he returned to war, Sonny was killed at the Battle of the Bulge. As a single working mom, Ginny raised Marcus with the help of her mother and her siblings. In 1953 Ginny married William J. “Bill” Moore. The three of them moved to Fort Myers, FL in 1957 where Ginny spent the remaining years of her life.
A few years ago Ginny was overwhelmed to receive a call from a gentleman in Belgium who had found part of the ID bracelet that Ginny had given to Sonny. He came to Fort Myers to bring the bracelet to Ginny. He shared he had found it with a metal detector near a foxhole. She wore it and cherished it the rest of her days.
Ginny was active in the Cape Coral Moose Lodge, the Fort Myers Chapter of the ABWA, a founding member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and later joined Christ Lutheran Church, the Red Hat Society, and the Ladies of the Elks. During her final years she was an avid supporter of the Military Museum in Cape Coral. She spent many years supporting her two grandsons as they played soccer. She loved any type of crafts and played card games her whole life.
Nothing gave Ginny more enjoyment than spending time with her family: son Mark (Linda), grandsons Scott (Darlene), Jeffrey (Sara), and great grandchildren Kiersten, Kendall, Maxwell, Delaney and Kelsi. She dearly loved her many nieces and nephews and their children. She is predeceased by her parents and all four of her siblings.
During the final years of her life Ginny resided at several Assisted Living Facilities most recently at Juniper Village in Cape Coral. When she needed more care, she was moved to Coral Trace Healthcare and she was under the care of Hope Hospice. We, her family, would like to thank every employee at these facilities. Their love and compassion during her final years and days were remarkable and appreciated.
Ginny died at the age of 94 on October 30, 2018 at Coral Trace. She finally got her wish to leave this earth and join her loved ones in heaven.
