Nancy graduated from Nashua High School in 1949 and attended LaSalle Jr. College before graduating from the University of New Hampshire in 1953. She continued her education with a Dietetic Internship at the New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center in New York City. After graduating in 1957, she stayed on as staff dietician in New York City where she met and married Richard Hopkins in 1959. They lived in Stuyvesant Town in New York City before moving to Madison, NJ.
After her children were grown, Nancy earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Services at Montclair State College in Montclair, NJ. She worked in Hospice care at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, and volunteered in the Stephen Ministry in Pastoral care at the Sanibel Community Church in Sanibel, FL.
Her hobbies included tennis, skiing, golf (Nifty Niners), shell and teddy bear collecting, crafting, cooking and playing the guitar.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard, and her two sons: Brian, and his wife, Diane, of Chester, NJ, with three grandchildren, Katie, Cindy and Matthew; and David and his wife, Cindy, of Atlanta, GA, with three grandchildren, Krista, Brandon, and Melissa and five great grandchildren: Harper, Hadley, Lily, Carter and Ethan. She is also survived by her brother, Ken Rice, and his wife, Kay, and two sons: Ken, Jr. and Robert.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Village Church at Shell Point, 15100 Shell Point Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL. 33908, on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
