May 24, 1922 – October 20, 2019
Mary was born May 24, 1922 in Toledo, Ohio, daughter of Gordon and Hazel Findlay. She had two brothers Paul and James. They moved to New Jersey and then Maryland where she fell in love with crabs and seafood.
Later back in Toledo, while she was in high school, she met Don at Glenwood Lutheran Church. After high school, Mary attended nursing school. While in nursing school, she married Don in February 1943. Don was then drafted a month later into the Army, and served in World War II.
Mary and Don had two daughters Barb and Kathy. Mary worked as a nurse for her Uncle for many years. She was very active at Glenwood Lutheran Church and was president of the women’s church group.
After Don retired, Mary and Don moved to Lehigh Acres in 1979. Mary was very active at Faith Lutheran church, and later at Gateway Trinity Church. Mary started a literacy program in Lehigh and was the director for 20 years. She taught many people to read.
In 2015, Mary and Don moved to Fountain Crest in Lehigh. They really enjoyed living there and had many friends.
Two of her greatest passions were faith and family. Mary was extremely proud of her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was also proud of her Scottish heritage. She had a positive outlook on life and her glass was always half full. Mary lived her life with a smile on her face, with compassion and grace.
