Mrs. Meyer (née Stringer) was born in Jacksonville, Florida on May 6, 1926, to Gretta Beryl Trotter and Sterling Stringer. She had lived in Danville IN, Dallas TX, New Brunswick and East Brunswick NJ, San Francisco CA, and Sanibel and Fort Myers, FL. She was a graduate of New Brunswick High School and attended Mary Washington College, a division of the University of Virginia at that time. In 1948, she married Richard C. Meyer, Jr. in Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill in San Francisco.
She is survived by her husband Richard and her three daughters; Karen Lee Barrett of Mountain Lakes, NJ, Melissa Mash (Tony) of London, England, and Amanda Feher (Julius) of Walnut Creek, CA, six grandchildren, and a brother Malcolm Stringer of Reston, VA. Her brother, Maax Stringer, pre-deceased her.
She was a charter member, past president and life member of the East Brunswick Woman’s Club. She served on the Board of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) in many capacities, including Vice President. She was instrumental in getting the State Headquarters of the NJSFWC located on the Rutgers University Campus and was an overseer during the construction period.
She was a Charter member of East Brunswick Friends of the Library, a counselor at the YMCA in New Brunswick, a founder of East Jersey Olde Towne, a member of the English Speaking Union and the Trowel Club. She taught Sunday School at the Milltown Methodist Church in New Jersey and was a member of the Congregational UCC Church of Sanibel, FL. In 1976, she was the only woman member on the State of New Jersey Bicentennial Committee.
Her first career was working for Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, NJ. After raising her family, she launched a successful second career in real estate, attaining membership in the Million Dollar Club. In her leisure time, she was an avid tennis and bridge player.
She will be missed as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend.
A Memorial Service will be held at a future date this summer at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick, NJ.
