Retired CW5 Command Chief George Marshall who was loving, generous and kind passed away on June 4th, 2022 at the age of 76 unexpectedly. George was born on December 12th, 1945. He attended St Ann's Anglican school. As a child he enjoyed participating in the local village masquerade band where his love for music began. He started working at a very young age to help supplement his family's income. Later he joined the Guyana Police Force and was detailed to serve the then President of Guyana.
George migrated to USA where he joined the United States Marine Corps and served 2 years with the 5th Marine Amphibious Brigade. He earned the rank of Lance Corporal. After active duty he was transferred to the 2nd Marine Division USMCR. In 1972 he joined the 411th Engineer Brigade, 77th ARCOM after which he served the majority of his career in Combat Service Support Units. He held many diverse positions, some of which include Communication Security Custodian, Food Service Manager, Property Book Officer and Logistics Officer. He also earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Marymount College. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/gold hour glass and several other medal’s. George was also a Mason and belonged to Prince Hall New York City Lodge #6. He served as an Assistant Scout Master of Troop 333 Sacred Heart Church Cambria Heights, N.Y.
George’s love for music included being a DJ known as “Hell Fiah Sounds” which later became known as“ GT Jammer.” He taught himself to play the guitar, piano, flute, steel pan and drums. He was an avid reader, loved running different marathons and he found great pleasure in tending his fruitful garden.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene of 48 years, children Mark, Maxine, Malik, Sidique Shakira. 1 son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, Grandchildren, Tyrone, Tamara, (D) Malachai, Cadafe, Tenique, Shomari, Leia, Saadiq, 3 step grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, Godchildren and cousins. Siblings Stephen (D), Alfred (D), Barbara (D), Wilford (D), William, Lorraine, Elizabeth, Anthony, Patricia, Jacqueline and Roxanne. Best friends Colonel Lloyd Freckleton, Patrick Simon, Oswin Lewis, Reynold Rose and all the countless lives he touched.
Visitation will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park 12777 State Road 82 in Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 pm. A committal service and Military Honors will take place at Sarasota National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 22nd at 1:30 pm.
