With great sadness we announce the passing of Robert James DeRosa Jr. “Jimmy” on May 19, 2022. Born on June 12, 1964, one of his favorite places was Island Heights, NJ where he spent many summers growing up and his high school years with the DeRosa's, Grandparents Lynn and Bern, Uncle Mike, Aunt Trish, Cousin Valerie, Uncle David, and Aunt Cindy.
After high school he moved to Florida and ultimately made Lighthouse Point his home where he was "Living the Dream" for over 20 years. He loved his community, his church St Paul the Apostle and spending time at the Lighthouse Point Marina.
His passion, as a self-taught musician, was writing songs, playing his many guitars, recording/producing in his home studio, and jamming with musician friends. Jimmy loved cooking and baking, shopping at Costco, playing chess, Tuesday poker, sharing his many stories, telling jokes, and laughing before the punchline, traveling, and his recent Uncle's Tour.
Jimmy will forever be remembered by his partner, Jennifer Abernathy, daughter Sara and family. Mother June and husband Walter Hahn, Father James Sr. and wife Nicole DeRosa, sister Michele DeRosa, and extended family sister Kimberly Spicer, her mother Sandra, her daughter Shelby and son Ronan, brothers Jacques, Jackson, and Clifford. Jimmy was also loved and cherished by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, former family, and friends. A vibrant, kind soul who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2700 NE 36th St, Lighthouse Point, Fl. 33064 on July 23, 2022, at 12 noon, followed by a Celebration of Life.
Donations in his honor can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or Notes for Notes, which provides youth access to musical instruments so that music can become a profoundly positive influence in their lives
