Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Eddie” Andreu, of 60 years; and survived by her daughter, Dora Alapont, of West Palm Beach, her husband, Raymond, their sons, Eric and his wife Lindy, their daughter Ava, and their son Raymond Daniel; her daughter, Diane Morales of Fort Lauderdale, her son Mario, his wife Jennifer, their children Brianna and Landon, and her son Ryan; her daughter, Denise Osborn of Hillsboro, OR, her husband, Dave, and children Samantha, her husband Kyle, Stephanie, her husband Huell, and her son Matthew; and her daughter Darlene Nugent of Phenix City, AL, her husband, Jason, and their sons, Chase, Damon, Noah, Lawrence, and Nicholas. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lydia Velazquez Kammer, of Kissimmee, FL.
Nancy was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on August 5, 1936, to parents Lydia and Ernesto Mercado. She emigrated to New York with her grandmother Aurora Velazquez when she was 15 years old. Upon graduating from high school Nancy enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. She was honorably discharged from active duty in 1956 after one year and 8 months of service. Nancy continued to serve as a reservist for an additional three years. Just like her husband Eddie, she carried a deep sense of pride and love for the Corps and her country throughout the rest of her life. She took pride in volunteering with organizations like Operation Homefront, establishing a local chapter serving veterans in the early 90’s. Nancy held a variety of jobs throughout her life while raising her four daughters. She was happiest during her travel agent years, taking advantage of exploring the world, meeting new people, and making friends.
Nancy was a devoted wife and loving mother. She married Eddie in 1959 and together they had four daughters. She always considered herself a Marine and could be found proudly wearing her Marine veteran baseball cap when out in the community in the senior years of her life. Nancy had a creative and artistic side to her. She was an avid quilter after retirement. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and keeping in touch with her many friends. As a social person, she would be the first to have a party, just because, with her best dance partner and love of her life, Eddie. As she said it best, “life is a carnival”.
