On Tuesday, February 12, 2019, Marie Neita Agenor (AKA Nene), mother, daughter and sister, passed away suddenly at the age of 72 years old from pancreatic cancer. Nene will be forever remembered by her daughter Claudia, nieces Jennifer & Winnie, her precious grand-children Britnee and Nathan. Additionally, her sisters and brothers Marie-Carmelle, Jeannine, Rita, Missole, Bertrand, Berthier, Edouard (Rameau) will remember the prominent role she played in their lives. Nene will also be forever remembered by her other numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and dear friends.
She is a native of Les-Cayes, Camp Perrin Haiti where she grew up in the early part of her life until moving to Port-au-Price in her teenage years. Nene worked hard with her older sister Marie-Carmelle to care and nurture her siblings, when she too lost her mother at a very early age. She was a woman of pure sophistication and never settled for anything less. Nene was a very giving and nurturing woman who always "told it as it is" which was what made her a unique woman.
Our Nene was warm, compassionate and vibrant. She was a proud and dignified woman who had a passion for life. She had a wonderful sense of humor which endeared her to everyone she came in contact with and is a great testament to her nature that she formed so many long lasting friendships over the years with so many of you here today.
Nene was brought up with traditional values and learned the skills that a woman of her era should know. Cooking, sewing, knitting and embroidery, as well as a love for music and art were some of her many passions. She worked as a hostess at Rascal House Restaurant for over 25 years. If you know Neita, you know most of her Rascal House stories. Her cooking was so succulent with the right combination of sugar and spice and everything nice. Her greatest quality was to encourage us to make the best of everything and to face problems head on. She was a proud woman who believed that there was no obstacle that couldn’t be overcome.
Nene has always been our support, strength and comfort when times have been tough. I don’t know how we will cope without her – it leaves a massive hole in our lives. But we will draw strength from the things she taught us and live by the words from Desdemona that my mother always quoted, as if her own: “Accept the things you cannot change and change the things you can". It is an honor to stand before you and share our precious memories of our Nene. She will be missed by all, but her memory will live on in us all forever.
We love you so much, Nene, and will miss you more than words can ever say.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.forestlawnsouth.com for the Agenor family.
