Grandpa,

In my 20 years of existence, you were truly the greatest grandfather one could ask for. You were caring, friendly, compassionate, strong and loving. Even though there was a slight language barrier, as my creole isn’t that good, you would always make an effort to converse with me and ask me how I was doing and if I was okay, and I sincerely appreciated that. Your death is the first I’ve had to deal with on a personal level in my entire life. When I heard the tragic news, I was crying for 3 consecutive days. Even though it truly hurts to know that you aren’t here anymore, I know that “Ou avèk Bondye kounye a.”

My dad was a very handsome man. He loved life and his family deeply. He used to call me “Marabou”. He always said that the sun in Miami is not good for my beauty, and he believed that. The last time he called me on the phone while in the hospital, he made the nurse called me to ask me if I am coming to pick him up. He loved being home, he was always happy when the nurse said he was going home. I kept hearing his voice saying :”Loune kouman ou ye la, yap voye m ale jodia wap vinn chèche m.”
Dad I miss you so much, I know you are in a better place, but it’s so hard for me to even think that you are gone.

Lucien was a funny guy. He liked to joke and share his many accomplishments in life. He liked to talk about the many girlfriends he had when he was a young man and how handsome he was. He loved music and liked to dance and sing. He was fun to be around and he will be missed. May he Rest In Peace.
