Born on March 25, 1978 in Fort Lauderdale, he was the son of Roy and Karen (Kiddy) Merritt. LeRoy followed in the path of the family business as a boat builder at Merritt ‘s Boat’s and Engine Works. Roy had a personality that was warm, and likeable, he made friends with everyone he came into contact with. First and foremost in his life was being a loving and respectable dad to his son and daughter who he loved devoting his time too. In his spare time if not with his children, Roy could be found fishing, a sport he truly enjoyed and which brought him the most peace.
Roy is survived by his parents; Roy and Karen Merritt; his children Roy III and Lily Merritt; his sister and brother-in-law, Tara and Jason Silverman; his nieces, Carolyne Flaten and Katelyn Flaten; his grandfather, Allen Merritt; his aunts and uncles and their families, Fran and Lee Pinnell and their son Allen Pinnell, Sheila and Ed Doyle, Debbie Kiddy and her daughter Kristi Abbuhl and Walter and Sharon Kiddy; and the mother of his children, Jennifer Merritt. Roy was predeceased by his sister Kathy Merritt Blake, on January 18, 2013.
In lieu of flower the family asks that donation in Roy’s memory be made to the Highlands Christian Academy, 501 NE 48th Street, Pompano Beach, FL 33064.
Relatives and Friends are invited to Honor and Celebrate, Roy’s Life on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, 301 E. Broward Blvd, Fort Lauderdale. Burial will take place privately in Pompano Beach Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale.
