James Ervin Mack, Sr. (Shang) son of the late Rufus and Rena Mack, was born on May 28, 1934 in Summerton, South Carolina. He was the third of eight siblings and was proceeded by two brothers George and Robert. James was called home on the morning of July 12, 2013 after a lengthy illness. James attended public schools in Summerton, South Carolina and in 1953 he enlisted in the Army. After serving for his country he was given an honorable discharge form the Army. On November 19, 1955, he was joined in holy matrimony to Azalee Oliver. To this union eight children were born. His oldest son James Jr., proceeded him in death. That union ended in later years.
James was a provider for his family and worked for the City of Miami Beach for 40 years where he retired as Labor Supervisor and part time at Sears as a mechanic for 27 years until he retired.
James met Leola Patterson and they were married in 2003. He became a father figure to her five children who matured him until his passing.
He was a born again Christian and a devoted servant to the Lord. James was a member and senior deacon of New Union Grove M.B Church were he served until illness prevented his service.
James leaves to cherish his memories: three daughters, Carolyn and Patricia Mack of Miami, Lisa Mack of Myrtle Beach, SC; four sons: Clinton, Aaron, Mark (Mona) and Frederick Mack of Miami. Five Step-kids: Evangelina, Joe, Angelina, Sheeba and Latoya. Six siblings: Mabeline (SC), Blanche (SC), Marcus (NC), John (NJ) and Steve (SC); four sister-in-laws, one brother in law, forty Grand kids, 72 Great Grands and one Great Great Grand. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
