It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Gaspar Vincent Garcia, Jr. He was the beloved son of Gaspar and Evelyn Garcia, and Maria and Jose Ruiz. Vincent is survived by his son Matthew and daughter Vanessa; grandchildren Skye and Talon; siblings Jillann, Valerie, Marc and Dolores, four nephews, three nieces, and a multitude of uncles, aunts, and cousins. A Nuyorican, Vincent was born in the Bronx, New York on April 17, 1966. As an adult, Vincent lived in Connecticut where he raised a family, before moving to Florida in 2010.
Vincent dedicated his life to the service and protection of others. He began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer for the New York Police Department, 45th Precinct, serving Co-op City, Bronx. Between 1992 to 2010, he served in the New London Police Department and retired as a decorated officer after receiving the Courage of Connecticut award. Vincent went on to serve the community of South Florida where he patrolled the rails for both Tri-Rail and Metro Rail systems. At the time of his sudden passing, Vincent was an Armed Guardian for Broward County Public Schools where he combined his passion for protecting others with his love for nurturing children.
Vincent upheld honor, integrity, service and, above all else, love. He was a Christian man who loved God, accepted Jesus into his heart as his Lord and Savior, and shepherded others back to Christ.
Vince was a man of many talents, hobbies and interests. He loved his children, music, Star Wars, old westerns, comics, tinkering with electronics, and all things related to law enforcement. He was an avid Giants football fan and an undying Yankees fan. He loved to grill and spend time with his loved ones. His smile and sense of humor could fill up the room. He loved to laugh and make jokes, greeting everyone with warmth and compassion. Vince was a fun and loving uncle to every child he knew and he will be missed dearly.
His memory will live on forever in our hearts. The graveside service for Mr. Gaspar Vincent Garcia will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, February 5, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memorium may be made to the following organizations: Tunnel to Towers Foundation and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
